Walkers Hope to Make Strides Against Breast Cancer

The Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center will participate in the American Cancer Society's walk Sunday at Suzanne Park.

A team of associates from Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) will be participating in the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk in Walnut Sunday from 9-11 a.m.  Check-in for the Walk is at 8:30 a.m.

The Walk will be held at Suzanne Park to raise awareness and funds to help fight breast cancer.  This is the first time that PVHMC has participated in the Walnut Walk.

“We’re pleased to be part of this exciting opportunity to further help in the fight against breast cancer,” said Hazel Wong, benefits manager at the hospital.  “We have a very active wellness program at PVHMC for our Associates – “Operation Wellness” – and this walk allows us to support the ACS and help our Associates with their personal Operation Wellness goals.”

Pomona Valley Hospital has oncology services for both inpatient and outpatient cancer services.  The Hospital is home to The Robert and Beverly Lewis Family Cancer Care Center which provides outpatient care including medical oncology, radiation oncology, a Breast Health Center, a patient library, wig salon and an extensive program of education, support groups and wellness programs.

The Hospital’s Cancer Care Center features some of the latest radiation technologies for treating cancer such as TomoTherapy and Trilogy with RapidArc, both of which are capable of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT).  Other technologies include Imaged Guided Radiation Therapy, cone beam CT scanning and Brachytherapy which uses radioactive materials for treatment.  The Cancer Care Center also offer prostate seed implants for men and partial breast irradiation via a balloon catheter for patients with breast cancer.

In addition to the PVHMC team that will be walking on Saturday the Hospital is also providing a $2,500 sponsorship of the event.  Pomona Valley Hospital is the only hospital sponsor for the event.  Funds raised from the Walk will go to help support and educate those with breast cancer and their loved ones.

@Muslim radicals are the problem here. This jihad/war whatever the hell you want to call it, willRead More never end in our lifetime. Ultimately the Muslims will win. Look no further than Europe. Unless there is a full fledged worldwide war, they really can't be stopped. Their numbers are too great. What we are doing in Afghanistan is nothing more than swatting away a bee every time one flies out of the hive. But there are millions still in the hive. Unless we close our borders to people from the Middle East and parts of Eastern Europe, what happened in Boston will continue. It's not racist to not like Muslims just like it wasn't racist to not like the Russians during the Cold War or Germans during WWII.

Thanks to these two scum brothers, I can no longer transport my hearty meals in my trusty pressureRead More cooker via backpack. As an alternative, I tried to fit a crock pot, but it ruined my backpack zipper and made a meatball/marinara mess inside my backpack; even making way into the USB ports of my laptop. Sorry, tupperware won't cut it. It just gets too hot and eventually leaves a huge welt on my back.
