New Thrift Store's Profits Will Go to Charity

Charity Thrift, opening June 15, will donate all of its proceeds to KidCare International.

A new thrift store, Charity Thrift, will open on June 15 near the intersection of Towne Avenue and Foothill Boulevard.

While the latest thrift store opening in Claremont might not usually be news, this new store comes with a twist: the "charity in its name denotes the fact that all of its proceeds will be donated to local charity KidCare International, founded by the store's owners, Larry and Janice Kapchinsky, in 1991.

KidCare, which provides tutoring and school supply programs to local, needy students, has seen its fundraising dollars decrease after the 2007 recession. In response, the Kapchinskys came up with their idea for Charity Thrift.
