Kopitar Makes Good First Impression on Reign Fans

The younger brother of the Kings' all-star scores the game-winning goal in overtime as the Reign beat San Francisco 3-2 Sunday.

Gasper Kopitar introduced himself to Ontario Reign fans in grand style.

The younger brother of Anze Kopitar, an all-star forward for the Los Angeles Kings, scored the game-winning goal in overtime and had an assist as the Reign won 3-2 over the San Francisco Bulls on Sunday.

Kopitar set up the Reign’s go-ahead goal at the end of a power play in the third period, as Cody Sol blasted to puck home to give Ontario a 2-1 lead that they would give up with 3:58 to go in the game.

But Matt White took over the puck in overtime, leading a 2-on-1 attack with Kopitar on his right hand side. He passed the puck to Kopitar, who blasted the puck home for the winner.

Sunday’s win finished a perfect weekend for the Reign, who won Friday and Saturday in Las Vegas. It also started a stretch where Ontario will play six of seven games at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

Mario Lamoureux also scored for Ontario, which leads the ECHL with 52 points on the season.
