Fury Soccer Club Snaps Losing Streak

The Fury are an indoor soccer team with players from Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties.

The Ontario Fury snapped their six-game losing skid and defeated visiting Toros Mexico in front of 2,653 fans at Citizens Business Bank Arena as part of the AYSO 50th Anniversary Celebration Night.

Ontario not only broke its losing skid, but broke another streak, as Luis Piffer scored 4:33 into the game, the first time the Fury have scored first in their last seven appearances. The Fury (3-6) took a 3-0 lead into the 2nd quarter, and stretched it to 4-0 before Mexico (4-4) retaliated with goals from Gerardo Guerrero and Daniel Villela.

Saturday saw the home debut of two new players, one who the crowd is familiar with. Coach Bernie Lilavois suited up and hit the field along with newcomer Jay Harris made their Fury home debuts and each netted goals.

Tino Nunez, of Long Beach, and Zach Bautista, of Orange, each scored hat tricks in the game. This is Nunez’s third of the season.

Ontario goaltender Sanaldo, of Sacramento, had 10 saves from 15 shots and Mexico’s Obie Clibourne had 13 of 25 saves.

Saturday night also marked the 50th Anniversary of AYSO. Fans wearing AYSO jerseys were given special opportunities to participate in in-game activities. Participants were also allowed to take part in a post-game meet and greet session.

The Fury’s roster features several local players from the Los Angeles, Orange County, San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego areas.

The Fury’s next home game is scheduled at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19 against the San Diego Sockers.
