Scripps said 78 percent of the $175 million goal represents investments in faculty, students, staff and alumnae and the remaining 22 percent is for physical improvements.

Scripps College announced a $175 million fundraising campaign that it said would focus on investments in people – scholarships and faculty – rather than new buildings.

“Our campaign focus is to create more opportunities to further strengthen our excellent educational experience,” Scripps College President Lori Bettison-Varga said.

Scripps said in a statement that 78 percent of the $175 million goal represents investments in faculty, students, staff and alumnae and the remaining 22 percent is for physical improvements.

The college has already raised $82 million during the leadership, or quiet phase, of the campaign. Of that, $45 million came from Scripps College Board of Trustees commitments, the college said.

The campaign’s theme is "More Knowledge, More Truth, More Imagination, More Justice, More Opportunity – We Want More: The Campaign for Scripps College." It references the college’s founder, Ellen Browning Scripps, who wanted more for women and humanity.
