Security officials with Claremont University are warning students to vigilant and use the proper locks for bicycles after detaining a man they suspect may have been looking to steal bikes from the campus.
Security officials recently distributed a flier with a photo of 28-year-old George Giannoulias, described as 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds, throughout the campus. Students and faculty are being asked if they recognize Giannoulias and ask anyone who encounters him to call security immediately.
Giannoulias was described only as a person of interest. He was found on campus near a bike corral at 2 a.m. Oct. 8 in possession of a bolt cutter, officials wrote in the flier.
University officials remind students to take reasonable personal safety precautions, contact Campus Safety for safety escorts, use U-Locks to secure your bikes, and to immediately report any suspicious activity to Campus Safety’s 24-hour Dispatch Center at (909) 607-2000.
