Local Businessman to Challenge Judy Chu for Congressional Seat

Orswell ran for the seat against U.S. Rep. Judy Chu, D-Monterey Park, for the seat in November 2012. Chu's district serves Claremont.

Monrovia businessman Jack Orswell, who ran against U.S. Rep. Judy Chu, D-Monterey Park, previously for the 27th District seat, plans to announce another bid today at the monthly Foothills Lincoln Club meeting.

He received more than 86,000 votes in that November 2012 election.

That district includes a portion of Monrovia, as well as Claremont, Altadena, Pasadena, the northern half of Upland, and a large area of the Los Angeles National Forest.

Orswell issued the following statement about his run:

“As a small business owner and a former FBI Agent, I believe that our government is no longer effectively serving the needs of the people.  Congress is filled with career politicians who are influenced by corporate and union money, ignoring the voices of the people," he said.

"Excessive, wasteful spending has produced a national debt that will be an enormous financial burden to our children and grandchildren.  I believe that I can make a difference.  With my leadership skills, my small business and government experience, and a strong desire to serve my community, I know that I can represent the people of the 27th District and build a better long-term future for our families and America.”
