More than 700 people attended a ceremony to honor military veterans.

On Monday morning, the San Dimas/La Verne VFW Post 12034 Band of Brothers had prepared to host some 400 veterans and local residents at the dedication of the completion of the first phase of a Veterans Memorial.

Instead, the post and city officials, who partnered with to host the event, welcomed more than 700. All packed in around the half-completed monument that sits on the corner of Bonita and Magnolia avenues.

The event was, in part, the unveiling of the first phase one of the project. The entire was expected to be unveiled and rededicated on Memorial Day 2013.
