UPDATE: Nearly 700 People Arrested Countywide in Holiday DUI Crackdown

Nearly 700 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs this holiday weekend in Los Angeles County, according to preliminary figures released Monday.

Officials from the Avoid the 100 Los Angeles County DUI Campaign reported that between 12:01 a.m. Thursday and midnight Sunday, 685 people were arrested on suspicion of DUI offenses. The figures are provisional, and could change.

Avoid programs are named for the numbers of law enforcement agencies in each county. Law enforcement officers will conduct other Avoid campaigns this summer, ending with the Labor Day weekend.
