Suspect Leads Police on Hour-Long Chase

The suspect caught officer's attention because he was driving a pick-up truck that may have been reported stolen.

A near hourlong police pursuit ended peacefully in downtown Los Angeles early Friday after the suspect turned into a cul-de-sac, police said.

West Covina police Lt. Dennis Patton said the unidentified suspect was seen throwing narcotics and "other evidentiary material" out of the window of the vehicle he was driving during the pursuit, which began around 1:10 a.m. and ended alongside the offices and cafe of Homeboy Industries at 2 a.m.

Patton said the suspect came to the attention of West Covina officers after failing to yield at East Holt Avenue near the San Bernardino (10) Freeway. Officers then gave chase after being told the Ford F150 pickup truck may have been stolen.

The pursuit, largely on surface streets, was conducted solely by West Covina officers, Patton said. He said the pursuit ended without incident when the suspect turned into Bruno Street off the 800 block of North Alameda Street.
