Nine People Arrested at Claremont DUI, License Checkpoint

A total of nine people were nabbed at a recent DUI checkpoint in the city, police tell Patch.

A total of nine people were arrested at a recent DUI/driver's license checkpoint in Claremont-- though only one of those was for suspicion of driving under the influence, police reported Monday.

The checkpoint was held Friday night on Foothill Blvd. at Dartmuth Ave., just east of North Indian Hill Blvd., according to Claremont Police Sgt. Fate.

Fate told Patch that there were a total of 1,114 vehicles screened in the operation, which ran from 6:30 p.m. Friday, until 12:30 a.m.  Saturday morning.

In addition to the singular DUI arrest, three people were nabbed for driving without a license, Fate said.  Another three people were arrested for driving on a suspended license, while the remaining two were those of people who had warrants out for their arrests, Fate said.

Funding for the operation was provided by state and federal grants, police reported.

According to 2010 statistics by the Office of Traffic Safety, the most recent available, one person was killed in Claremont in a DUI related crash. However 149 people were injured in 2010, according to the statistics.
