Man Killed in Police Pursuit After Allegedly Stealing TVs from Target

The male suspect was pronounced dead at the scene on the Indian Hill Boulevard off-ramp off the I-10 in Claremont.

A man suspected of stealing two, large flat screen televisions from a Montclair Target store was killed today while trying to get away in a sedan, driven by a woman, that crashed on a San Bernardino (10) Freeway off-ramp in Claremont, according to a Montclair police detective.

The pursuit began at about 5:20 p.m. when Montclair police were called to the Target store at 9050 Central Avenue regarding a burglary in progress, Detective Steven Griffin said.

When officers arrived, a man fled the store through a fire exit with two large flat screen  televisions and ran to a waiting green, 2004 Honda Accord four-door sedan with a woman behind the wheel, according to Griffin. They drove southbound on Central Avenue, Griffin said.

"Officers initiated a traffic stop," he said. "The suspect vehicle failed to yield for the officers and the vehicle entered the westbound I-10 Freeway. As officers pursued the suspect vehicle, it exited the Indian Hill Boulevard off ramp. As the suspect vehicle was exiting, the male suspect who was seated in the rear of the vehicle was ejected out as it collided into three other vehicles," he said.

"The male suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The female suspect was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital for a complaint of pain," Griffin said. Two of the motorists involved in the collision were transported to hospitals complaining of pain.
