Local Student Bound and Robbed by Armed Gunman

Police are searching for a gunman who tied a Cal Poly student inside a dorm room.

Cal Poly Pomona Police are searching for a man who walked into a dorm room and robbed a student resident.

The incident was reported about 9:45 p.m. on Oct. 25.

Police said the armed gunman entered a room on the first floor of Alamitos Residence Hall and closed the door behind him. He displayed a gun to the student in the room then reportedly tied him up.

The robber collected several items belonging to the student and his two roommates into a duffel bag and left.

The student managed to free himself and alerted the resident adviser, who called campus police. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies helped conduct a search and set up a perimeter.

The robber is described as a black man in his mid-20s, 6-feet-2 with a medium build, short hair. He had an unshaven face at the time. He wore a dark hoody and dark jeans, and smelled of cigarette smoke, police said.

He is considered armed and dangerous. Police have posted a sketch of the robber throughout campus.

Since residence halls are locked 24/7, investigators suspect the robber followed a resident into the building. There was no evidence of forced entry, officials said.

Police are investigating the possibility this armed robbery may be related to a separate robbery report on Sunday evening.

University Police ask anyone with information on the robbery or robber to report it (909) 869-3070.

“Public safety officials have swept Alamitos Hall and surrounding areas, as well as increased patrols,” campus officials wrote in a news release. “A safety campaign has been launched at all residence halls and suites, reminding students to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious behavior to authorities.”

Police also urge the campus to take general safety precautions:

  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Always report suspicious behavior or potential safety issues to police
  • Use a buddy system for walking campus or keeping watch for neighbors
  • Avoid dark or deserted locations
  • Program the University Police phone number (909-869-3070) into your cell phone

@Muslim radicals are the problem here. This jihad/war whatever the hell you want to call it, willRead More never end in our lifetime. Ultimately the Muslims will win. Look no further than Europe. Unless there is a full fledged worldwide war, they really can't be stopped. Their numbers are too great. What we are doing in Afghanistan is nothing more than swatting away a bee every time one flies out of the hive. But there are millions still in the hive. Unless we close our borders to people from the Middle East and parts of Eastern Europe, what happened in Boston will continue. It's not racist to not like Muslims just like it wasn't racist to not like the Russians during the Cold War or Germans during WWII.

Thanks to these two scum brothers, I can no longer transport my hearty meals in my trusty pressureRead More cooker via backpack. As an alternative, I tried to fit a crock pot, but it ruined my backpack zipper and made a meatball/marinara mess inside my backpack; even making way into the USB ports of my laptop. Sorry, tupperware won't cut it. It just gets too hot and eventually leaves a huge welt on my back.
