According to the preliminary investigation, Bohannon was driving a 2005 GMC Z71 pickup truck east on Foothill Boulevard "at a high rate of speed" when he encountered a 2004 Ford F150 pickup truck that was eastbound in the No. 2 lane at about 30-40 mph, the sheriff's department reported.

"The GMC struck the rear end of the Ford, causing the GMC to leave the roadway, striking a tree in the center median," the sheriff's department reported.
