Eight Arrested at Claremont DUI Checkpoint, No DUIs Suspected

A total of eight people were arrested at a weekend DUI checkpoint in town, police tell Patch-- however none of them were for suspected DUI.

Though police arrested a total of seven people at a weekend sobriety checkpoint, none of them were suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police tell Patch.

According to Claremont Lt. Shelly Vander Veen, the Sunday night operation in town netted a total of eight arrests-- seven for people who were caught driving without a proper license and one "parolee at large."

Of those eight people, five of the them were cited and released and did not have to be jailed, Vander Veen said.

Police announced the checkpoint last week, and said funding was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
