UPDATED: Cyclist Killed in Claremont Crash ID's as La Verne Resident

The cyclist and the vehicle were headed east on Baseline when they collided, authorities said

UPDATE:

The bicyclist killed after crashing with a vehicle on Baseline Road in Claremont was identified as 76-year-old Ali Mirage, of La Verne.

According to information released by Claremont Police Lt. Shelly Vander Veen, next-of-kin were notified when they arrived at the scene of the incident. A 54-year-old woman in a Toyota Corolla struck Mirage, according to a report by City News Service.

Mirage appears to have been on a daily bike ride at the time, City News reported.

The Corolla's driver stopped and cooperated with investigators, Vander Veen said.

The crash forced the closure of Baseline Road between Bonnie Brae Ave. and Mills Ave. from 9:54 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This is so sad. It is unclear of the situation between the 2 vehicles of course but please, please give 3 feet to bicycles. Cyclists will not go away so we all need to get along. And cyclists must be smart, assume the worst and have 360 eyeballs. So sad.

Fact or Fiction?? Police car was the vehicle that hit the biker.

Ms. Reed, Police say it was a 54-year-old woman who struck the cyclist.

What is sad is that most of Claremont has bicycle paths on certain streets. Baseline is a pretty busy street; I am thinking that most bikers who are going for a "joy ride" should avoid a street like Base Line.
