Claremont Police Schedule DUI Checkpoint This Weekend

Police announced the checkpoint will be held on Saturday, April 20.

Claremont police will be conducting a DUI/license checkpoint this weekend within city limits, it was announced.

Lt. Jason Walters says the sobriety checkpoint will be held at an undisclosed location within the city on Saturday, beginning at 7 p.m and lasting through 2 a.m. Sunday.

"Drivers will be stopped long enough to ensure they are not under the influence of drugs or alcohol," Walters said.  "Officers will also ensure that drivers are wearing their seatbelts and possess valid driver licenses."

A dozen people were arrested at the last Claremont DUI checkpoint, but the majority of arrests were for those who weren't properly licensed.

Another one in early February netted a total of nine arrests; eight for driving without a license, and one on suspicion of DUI.
