Claremont Police Plan DUI Checkpoint This Weekend

The seven-hour-long operation will begin Sunday night, police said.

The Claremont Police Department will be targeting unlicensed and drunk or drugged drivers at a weekend operation, police said Thursday.

The sobriety checkpoint will be held Sunday, August 25 at an undisclosed location in the city beginning at 6 p.m., according to Lt. Jason Walters.

"Drivers will be stopped long enough to ensure they are not under the influence of drugs or alcohol," Walters said.  "Officers will also ensure that drivers are wearing their seatbelts and possess valid driver licenses."

Funding for the operation— which is scheduled to last seven hours— is provided via state and federal grants, according to the lieutenant.
