Claremont Police Plan DUI Checkpoint This Weekend

The operation is scheduled for Sunday, August 4, according to the Claremont Police Department.

Claremont police will be looking for unlicensed and drunk drivers at a weekend operation, it was announced Friday.

The sobriety checkpoint will be held at an undisclosed location in town, beginning at 6 p.m., according to Claremont Police Lt. Jason Walters.

"Drivers will be stopped long enough to ensure they are not under the influence of drugs or alcohol," Walters said.  "Officers will also ensure that drivers are wearing their seat-belts and possess valid driver licenses."

The operation is scheduled to last seven hours.  Funding is provided via state and federal grants, according to the lieutenant.
