Claremont Police continue their efforts to curb the number of burglaries in the city.
And the latest effort has led to the arrest of 35-year-old Rachel Lamar of Claremont. Police officials said the woman was arrested about 1 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the Vons Shopping Center, in the 500 E. Baseline Road.
According to the Claremont Courier, Lamar’s vehicle was identified by the Police’s Department’s License Plate Readers that can also search for specific plates. The vehicle was connected with a burglary in La Verne, the paper reported.
Officers took the woman into custody without incident. She was then turned over to La Verne authorities that booked her into the Los Angeles County Jail system, according to police.
Lamar was scheduled to appear in court today. According to jail records she could be facing a felony charge but the record did not indicate what the charge was.
Claremont has been battling a slow rise in the number of commercial and residential burglaries over the past few months. Earlier this month, the department got approval to hire a part-time detective who could handle the court filings to free up already overworked detectives who are investigating the burglaries that have been reported, police department officials said.
