WILL YOUR HOME OR
BUSINESS BE WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE PROPOSED SAN GABRIEL NATIONAL
RECREATION AREA?

The National Park Service is recommending federal
legislation which will designate a large portion of the San Gabriel Valley as a
National Recreation Area (NRA).

The recommended NRA area covers more than 1,000 square miles
of LA County and parts of Orange and San Bernardino counties. Approximately 1.5
million residents live within the proposed boundaries which includes over 50
communities, our local mountains, and the San Gabriel and Rio Hondo Rivers.

To explore the impact of this proposed legislation on local
control, water rights, businesses and recreation opportunities in the area, the
San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG) is hosting a workshop. City Council,
City staff, businesses and interested members of the public are encouraged to
attend. It will be an excellent opportunity for citizens to learn about the
proposed legislation, to ask questions, and to have their voices heard on this
most important matter.

Congressional representative, Judy Chu, has expressed
interest in introducing this legislation, probably toward the end of 2013.

I urge citizens and business owners to take the time to
attend this workshop, learn about the proposed legislation and the impact it
may have on local land use, water rights, businesses and recreation
opportunities in the area.  Let your voices
be heard.
