Scattered Showers Prompt Flash Flood Warning in Southland

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - An unstable air mass will bring parts of the Southland scattered showers and thunderstorms through this evening, raising fears of flash flooding, National Weather Service forecasters said.

"These storms will be slow-moving and will have the potential to bring heavy rain to the area this afternoon through late this evening," according to an NWS advisory.

"Excessive runoff from heavy downpours may cause rapid filling and overflowing of normally dry washes and small creeks and low-lying areas. In addition, there will be a threat of mud and debris flows in and below steep terrain, especially near recent burn areas."
