Woman Suspected of Pomona DUI Crash Faces Manslaughter Charge

Raelene Martinez, 20, also faces charges related to driving under the influence.

An 20-year-old Ontario woman arrested after a fatal traffic collision in April faces four charges, including one count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced today that Raelene Martinez will face the manslaughter charge for the Pomona crash on April 7.

In addition, she faces three other charges including driving under the influence causing injury, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level of .08 or more causing injury, and being under 21 with a blood alcohol level of .05 or more, according to a news release.

Martinez was booked at the Pomona Police Jail.  Her bail has been set at $200,000, according to authorities.

At 1:38 a.m. on April 7, Martinez reportedly was driving northbound on North San Antonio Avenue when she lost control of the Toyota Camry she was driving in, struck several parked cars, and flipped over.

Four passengers were in the car with Martinez, police said. A female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash. The three others were transported to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Martinez also was injured in the collision.  Evidence found at the scene of the crash led officers to suspect that Martinez was under the influence of alcohol while driving, police said.

The ongoing investigation led the announcement of the arrest.
