Claremont Mourns and Honors Cyclist Killed in Crash

Ali Mirage, of La Verne, was killed Dec. 27 after colliding with a vehicle on Base Line. An artist has created a ghost bike in his honor which was unveiled at a Tuesday ceremony.

Locals came together today to honor La Verne resident 76-year-old Ali Mirage who was killed in a crash on Dec. 27 as he took his daily bike ride on Base Line.

Local artist Andres has created a ghost bike for Mirage that has been signed by Mirag’s family, wife Mitra and two of his sons Ramin and Quincy. Fire Battalion Chief Kelley Seyarto from station 62 attended a ceremony held at the site.

“The eldest son Jimmy and daughter Leesa flew in from the east coast and shared that they are so deeply touched by the amount of kindness that exists in our community for their family that is hurting,” members of Keeping the GOOD in Our Neighborhood

A few years back, Jimmy was pushed off the road on his bicycle and was hospitalized, according to KGNH.

“Ali told him, ‘You must get back to cycling because that is what you love to do. You must not ride in fear but ride with joy in your heart as to how great it is to RIDE !’” KGNH officials said.
