Claremont Concerts in the Park Start Monday

The city of Claremont will kick off its 2013 Summer Concerts in the Park series Monday.

The weekly free events run through Sept. 2 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Memorial Park, 840 N. Indian Hill Boulevard.

The concerts, which are sponsored by both the city and the Claremont Kiwanis Club and are open to the public, draw 3,000 to 5,000 people each night, according to the city's website.

"In an effort to appeal to a wide audience, the series features a diverse type of music while including a few traditional groups," officials wrote in a news release.

Although the concerts do not start until 7 p.m., attendees usually start arriving at 6 p.m. to find a space and have dinner in the park, officials said.

The Kiwanis Club sells concessions that include burgers, hot dogs, quesadillas, ice cream, popcorn, nachos, candy, and drinks.  The proceeds raised pay for the bands.

Attendees may bring a picnic dinner as well.  Organizers recommend bringing blankets or low chairs for seating. Alcoholic beverages and smoking are not allowed in any city park.

Dogs are not allowed in city parks other than the Claremont Pooch Park.
