Fall Favorites Celebrated at Claremont event

The 31st annual Village Venture featured art, entertainment, a pumpkin carving contest and an international food court -- as well as a parade of costumed children.

Hundreds of children -- and a few adults -- put their cutest foot forward in costume Saturday during the 31st annual Village Venture in Claremont.

The event takes place ‘rain or shine’ and the weather was warm and accommodating as spectators viewed the Children’s Halloween Costume Parade that began on Bonita and Harvard avenues.

Costumes ranged from the classics -- witches, pumpkins and princesses -- to superheroes and fairies. Some parade participants walked, others were pulled in wagons, while parents carried some of the youngest.

“We always have it on the fourth Saturday in October, rain or shine,” explained Maureen Aldridge, CEO of the Claremont Chamber of Commerce.

Around 40 volunteers staffed various aspects of the event, Aldridge said.
