POMONA HOST LIONS CLUB HOLDS 94TH INSTALLATION AND AWARDS CEREMONY

At the Pomona Host Lions Club’s 94th annual installation and awards ceremony recently, District 4-L4 Governor-Elect Gil Smith installed Ricky Ortiz as club president. Also installed were First Vice President Denny Mosier, Second Vice President Jo Fulton, Secretary Helen Mosier, Treasurer Steve King, Financial Secretary Jack Lightfoot, Immediate Past President Richard Sugerman, Tail Twisters Kris Georgeson and Steve Storbakken. Installed as Directors were Anne Henderson, Barbara Smith, Gil Smith and Beverly Sugerman. Also serving on the board are Directors Frank Guzman and WendyAnn Stuard as well as Lion Tamers George Kopiloff and Ben Mortagy. Serving as Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Pomona Host Lions Past President Jack Lightfoot. After his installation, Ortiz spoke about his theme for the year, “Connecting with People.” Ortiz said, “It is my belief that the efficiency of an organization dramatically improves when the people within it are well-connected.” He emphasized the importance of working as a team to accomplish the club’s goals of developing people and of serving the community. Retiring President Richard Sugerman recognized the following Lions for excellent service: Lion of the Year, Beverly Sugerman; Melvin Jones Fellow Award, Jo Fulton; Distinguished Service Awards, Kris Georgeson, Anne Henderson and Ricky Ortiz; Heart of a Lion Awards, Ralph Carlton and Jack Lightfoot; Quiet Lion Award, Steve King; President’s Appreciation Awards, Frank Alvarez, Morgan Brown, Frank Guzman, Matt Moncrief, Carmen Morris, Ben Mortagy and WendyAnn Stuard; Legal Eagle Awards, Gil and Barbara Smith; and New Member Recognition Awards, Denny and Helen Mosier. At the end of the ceremony, incoming President Ortiz gave outgoing President Sugerman his Past President’s pin, and District Governor-Elect Smith presented Ortiz with the 2014-2015 District tie, representing that Ortiz is the president of the governor’s home club.
